ABOUT SARAH ROSSNEY

“Art is the perpetual motion of illusion. The highest purpose of art is to inspire.” - Bob Dylan.

Sarah Rossney, born on the 18th September,1976, holds a degree in Archaeology and Italian from UCD (2000). She has lived in Milan, Rome, San Francisco and Leiden. She is currently a full time artist living and working in Dublin.

Sarah is a self-taught artist who began working in the media of mosaic and stained-glass. Later when experimenting with acrylic on canvas she began using the same technique of raised bold out-lining and vivid colours to create her own truly unique style of painting, combining conventional methods with an added dimensional aspect that has to be seen to be fully appreciated.

Sarah's work borrows something from the the ideas of the pop art movement, transforming sometimes mundane urban scenes into bright and fascinating studies of city life full of colour, contrast and motion.

Inspired partly by the comic book style art of painters such as Roy Lichtenstein and illustrators such as Darick Robertson and Steve Dillon, the overall effect of Sarah’s work is the fusion of the real and the fantastic into inspiring and optimistic visions of modern life; the sky is brilliant blue, the sun is always shining and the people wear day-glo.

Having painted extensively the streets and landmark buildings of Dublin and New York, Sarah’s immediate aim is to travel to other iconic cities, notably Amsterdam and Las Vegas to continue her exploration of the modern metropolis, it’s inhabitants and it’s diverse and often contrasting architectural styles.

In her relatively short career to date, Sarah's work has been commissioned extensively by both private and corporate clients ,while her portfolio has been bought up by art lovers and savvy investors, looking for that rarest of commodities… a true original.
